High-energy Antimatter Telescope (heat): Basic Design and Performance
نویسندگان
چکیده
The High-Energy Antimatter Telescope (HEAT) instrument has been own successfully by high-altitude balloon in 1994 and 1995, in a connguration optimized for the detection and identiication of cosmic-ray electrons and positrons at energies from about 1 GeV up to 50 GeV and beyond. It consists of a two-coil superconducting magnet and a precision drift-tube tracking hodoscope, complemented with a time-of-ight system, a transition radiation detector and an electromagnetic shower counter. We review the design criteria for optimal e detection and identiication, and assess the instrument's performance and background rejection during its rst two ights. We also review the adaptation of HEAT for measurements of high-energy cosmic-ray antiprotons and for isotopic composition studies.

Flight Performance of the HEATRigidity
The HEAT (High Energy Antimatter Telescope) instrument was successfully own by high altitude balloon in May 1994. HEAT combines a new magnet spectrometer, comprised of a two-coil superconducting magnet and precision drift tube hodoscope, with a transition radiation detector and electromagnetic shower counter for particle identiication. Flight data are presented which demonstrate that the spectr...
متن کاملCosmic ray positrons at high energies: A new measurement.
We present a new measurement of the cosmic-ray positron fraction e + =(e + + e) obtained from the rst balloon ight of the High Energy Antimatter Telescope (HEAT). Using a magnet spectrometer combined with a transition radiation detector, an electromagnetic calorimeter, and time-of-ight counters we have achieved a high degree of background rejection. Our results do not indicate a major contribut...
متن کامل01 The conceptual design of the photovoltaic solar thermal collector hybrid system and the ground source heat pump to provide electricity, heating and cooling a residential building focusing on technical, economic and environmental parameters.
This paper attempts to present and compare four solar assisted ground source heat pump combined systems with series and parallel layouts and direct and indirect heat exchange in Zahedan in order to supply part of the electricity demand for equipment and selling surplus electricity to the grid as a source of project financing and revenue generation for residents, moreover, fulfill the region's n...

The CPT theorem and the Weak Equivalence Principle are foundational principles on which the standard description of the fundamental interactions is based. The validity of such basic principles should be tested using the largest possible sample of physical systems. Cold neutral antimatter (low-energy antihydrogen atoms) could be a tool for testing the CPT symmetry with high precision and for a d...
متن کاملA Double Pipe Heat Exchanger Design and Optimization for Cooling an Alkaline Fuel Cell System
In the presented research, heat transfer of a mobile electrolyte alkaline fuel cell (AFC) (which the electrolyte has cooling role of system) has been considered. Proper control volumes of system with specific qualification have been chosen. Consequently, heat and mass transfer in control volumes have been assessed. Considerations on them and contributed models lead to approve a double tube heat...
